Like some of the other reviews I have noticed a marked decline in quality over the last two or three purchases. I have been buying Meindl Respond GTX for maybe 7 years

how MEINDL quality has fallen

I was unlucky enough to buy a pair of MEINDL respond XCR last march as i was walking part of the Camino Santiago in June and they were rubbish, how the brand has fallen. Its a pity they were good once upon a time,

Sharp decline in quality compared to my last pair

I've only been wearing these for 5 months and they already need to be replaced. I still have the previous pair which lasted 2 years but the latest pair I bought are now in a worse condition than them after only 5 months. The points of failure on both pairs are similar but I did not expect it to happen so soon. I have sent a complaint out to Meindl directly to try to determine if this is an anomaly in their production or a legitimate decline in quality.

On the plus side, they fit my feet very well and are always comfortable but the outcome will determine if I drop Meindl altogether due to decline in quality.

The service from the Great Outdoors was excellent. I received my order in three days. Will use the service again.

Wide and comfortable

I have pretty bad bunions and the Meindl Respond was recommended to me by a foot specialist. Since then I have gone through 4 pairs. They last about three years of almost constant use (I use them for everyday walking, rarely for trail-walking or rough hiking) and even then they are still wearable but a bit tatty. They're a bit pricey but they're the only shoes I can wear for any length of time.
Pros: wide, very comfortable, weatherproof, virtually indestructible, look great when they're new
Cons: expensive, look a bit tatty after a while, tendency to slip on wet surfaces
I'm not a serious hiker, so I won't recommend these in that respect, but if you suffer from bunions or wide feet, they are a game-changer.
