We have teamed up with Helly Hansen to one of you the opportunity to win our giveaway of The Helly Hansen Vimer 3L jacket. This top-class waterproof jacket is designed for hiking, mountaineering and trekking, and is #TrustedByProfessionals at Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue every day. We are lucky enough to, over the past few weeks, be able to field test this jacket ahead of giving one away to one of you. Through our testing we have been very impressed with it. Despite not using the industry standard waterproof membrane, Gore-Tex, the performance of the jacket has been at a very comparable level in our testing. Water beads off the jacket beautifully, it provides incredibly effective wind-proofing, the hood fits securely and does not flap even in very high winds and thanks to the ideally-sized pit zips the jacket feels comfortable even on mild days.
Plus, it looks very cool, we love the red colour!
To check out the Vimer 3L Jacket in the wild as well as our initial impressions of field testing the
jacket. Watch the video below.
From our testing the Vimer 3L fits slightly big. A small fits similarly to a medium in competitors
jackets. There is plenty of space to layer underneath the jacket too. This makes it a very good
option for a winter hiking jacket. The hood is helmet compatible and highly adjustable.
The Vimer 3L Jacket uses Helly Hansen’s own waterproof breathable technology, Helly Tech. In
the case of the Vimer 3L the top of the range Helly Tech technology, Helly Tech Professional is
used. Helly Tech Professional jackets are “extremely waterproof and breathable designs and
constructions. For highly aerobic, extremely wet or unusually long-lasting activities in extremely
harsh conditions” according to Helly Hansen’s website. This membrane is protected by a 100%
polyamide 70D X 70D face fabric which would stand up to most abrasion, and is backed by a
very breathable 100% polyurethane back.
- The jacket features a helmet compatible and adjustable hood with a stiff peak to keep rain out of
the eyes of the wearer.
- At the back of the neck and inside the top of the front zip there is a soft-touch fabric for next to
skin comfort. This is the main reason this jacket is so comfortable to wear for long periods of
- The jacket fits very comfortably and the PU backing feels good even directly on the skin.
